1. On June 8, 1998 a claim ticket numbered 774211 was presented at the Lost Property Desk. The bearer declined to give a name, which is permitted under Lost Property Procedure LP-2.

2. The ticket is of the pattern issued by the Big Dog Diner coat check. That stock was discontinued in 1994. The Desk has no record of accepting any item from the Diner after that year.

3. The bearer stated that the ticket was left against one gray overcoat, deposited ████ 7, 1996, and that the coat was to be kept until called for.

4. The Desk searched the Sixth Floor rack and the sub-basement annex. One gray overcoat was found on a hanger bearing the number 774211. The hanger was in good order. The coat was not on it.

5. Tied to the hanger was a card in block capitals reading ALREADY COLLECTED. The card is not on Desk stock. The handwriting has not been matched to any associate.

6. The bearer was informed that the item could not be released. The bearer asked that it be noted that the coat was collected by ████████████ and that the ticket was never surrendered. This is noted.

7. The ticket has been retained by the Desk. The bearer was given a receipt on Form LP-4, number 0312, and asked to return only if the coat is located.

8. The Desk requests guidance on whether a ticket may be considered redeemed when the item has been collected without it.
